Huawei Watch4 Series

Huawei has officially launched the Huawei Watch 4 series of smartwatches , including the Watch4 and Watch4 Pro models. Both come with a color LTPS AMOLED display 1.5-inch screen with a 466 x 466 pixel resolution (310 ppi). The body measures 46.2×46.2×10.9mm in the base model and 47.6×47.6×12.9mm in the Pro model. The case is stainless steel, and the band is fluoroelastomer in the base, while the case is aerospace-grade titanium with titanium or leather in the Pro model. The screen-to-body ratio of the watch exceeds 71 cents (71.72% in the Pro model and 74% in the basic model).

The Pro model also features a display protected by spherical sapphire glass. The display supports Always-On Display (AOD), so you can always set the clock to show some important information, such as the time. The watch face can be customized by choosing from over 20,000 watch faces available (some free, some paid). The entire Huawei Watch 4 Series integrates an 8-channel accelerometer, gyroscope, compass and optical heart rate sensors, ambient light, barometer, temperature and depth sensors.

On the side, the watches mount the physical Home button (rotating crown) and a second button. Both smartwatch models support NFC and Bluetooth connectivity (v5.2 on 2.4GHz band, BR+BLE). Therefore, there are sufficient sensors for monitoring heart rate, blood oxygen levels (SpO2), breathing, stress levels, sleep (including sleep phases) and skin temperature. The watch can notify you when your heart rate accelerates or decreases or if arrhythmia is detected, as well as provide useful suggestions to improve the quality of your sleep.

New to this series is the ” Breath control ” function, with which the watch analyzes parameters such as breathing rate, blood oxygen and how you cough, together with information on possible risks, such as the presence of air pollution, to estimate the state of breathing and the general health of the lungs. All are accessible in the Health app on your smartphone and your watch. While this can be paired with Android, Huawei, and Apple devices, this particular feature is not supported on Apple’s iOS devices.

The watches also support the eSIM function, to be able to make calls and send messages without needing a phone connected via Bluetooth: however, it is necessary to have an eSIM, which must be purchased from an operator, and an offer with internet included and which allows receiving/making calls. When the eSIM function is enabled, you can use Huawei’s Petal Maps Watch Edition mapping app without needing a smartphone. The watches can track over 100 sports modes (such as running, cycling, and swimming), including diving up to 30 meters.

These new wearables allow you to customize your free diving, selecting the type of water between fresh and salty, the temperature and the underwater compass. Be careful, though. As for the resistance of the watch, the manufacturer notes that the two watches comply with the 5 ATM resistance level according to the ISO 22810:2010 standard, which indicates resistance up to 50 meters of static water pressure for 10 minutes (does not indicate water resistance in water 50 meters deep).

Furthermore, according to Huawei, the wearable can be worn during shallow water activities, such as swimming in a pool or along the coast. The device also complies with the EN 13319 standard for diving accessories and supports free diving to a maximum depth of 30 meters. Huawei notes that the watch should not be worn during hot showers, hot springs, or saunas (Turkish baths) or during platform diving, high-pressure rinsing, or other activities involving high water pressure, high temperatures, humidity levels of humidity or fast-flowing water. Also, the watch is unsuitable for scuba diving, technical diving or underwater activities deeper than 30 meters.

Finally, Huawei notes that leather and metal straps are not designed to resist swimming or sweat; therefore, different bands are recommended in such scenarios. Both smartwatch models are resistant to dust in everyday environments such as living rooms, offices, laboratories, industrial studies and warehouses but are not suitable for use in extremely dusty environments: dust must not enter the device. Otherwise, it would damage the internal components. Technical diving or underwater activities at depths greater than 30 meters.
